Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series at Tazewell Speedway April 16 for $21,000 to win Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial
SOMERSET, KENTUCKY (April 11, 2022) – The Valvoline Iron-Man Racing Southern Series will be in competition on Saturday April 16 at Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN for the 2ndAnnual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial, with the 75-lap main event paying $21,000 to win and $1,000 to start. The event will be co-sanctioned with Ray Cook’s Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series.
The 2nd Annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial will take place at Tazewell Speedway on Saturday April 16 and will feature the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series co-sanctioned with the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series in a full program of Practice, E-Z-GO Time Trials, Sunoco Race Fuels Heats, B-Mains, and the 75 lap, $21,000 to win/$1,000 to start Lil’ Bill Corum main event. Other divisions in competition at the 2ndAnnual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial event on Saturday April 16 at Tazewell Speedway will be the track’s Sportsman ($1,021 to win), Classic Cars ($521 to win), and Street Stocks ($521 to win). The track has posted a $2,100 fast time award for the overall top qualifier for the Super Late Model portion provided the driver has pre-entered for the event, which had to be postmarked by April 1.
Activities at Tazewell Speedway on Saturday April 16 for the 2ndAnnual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial will see the pit area open at 2:00 p.m., with the general admission area opening at 4:00 p.m. The driver’s meeting will be at 6:00 p.m., with practice laps set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Ticket prices for the 2ndAnnual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial at Tazewell Speedway on Saturday April 16 in the general admission area will be $30 for adults (children ages 9 and under are free with a paid adult), while a pit pass will be $45 for adults (children ages 12 and under $35).
There will be limited camping available on a first come, first serve basis in the main parking lot area and the charge is $20 nightly and campers will pay this fee at the main gate to get camper credentials. There will no personal vehicles or side-by-sides allowed inside, however, there is limited handicap parking spots for spectators in the upper pit area on a first come, first serve basis. Minor release forms are required in the pit area for children under the age of 18, with both parents and the minor required to sign the form at either gate they enter into the pit area.
The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series will co-sanction the event with the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series and the tire rule will be as follows: Hoosier 1350, 1600, LM40 (Crate 21 and 55 also are fine) or American Racer 48 and 56 (if the series needs to do a tire rule limiting the number of tires per night it will, but as of now the series will not be limiting the number of tires for the series; NO 29.0 size tires on the left rear; the droop rule will be in effect, along with the new standardized 2022 body rules). The entry fee will be $150 and transponders for timing/scoring will be available for rent at the track. Any driver not making the 22-car starting field will receive $75 tow money.
Lil’ Bill Corum was the winner of more than 300 races and is a Hall of Fame Member at three different tracks. His career spanned from 1959 through 1989 throughout East-Tennessee and North Georgia while winning the first event at Knoxville Raceway, a two-time winner of the Tennessee Dirt Track Championship, and captured the NDRA’sStroh’s 100 at Atomic Motor Speedway in 1981. Corum also competed in the only ARCA race that was held at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN, finishing third in 1973. Corum collected track championships at 411 Motor Speedway, Atomic Motor Speedway, Tazewell Speedway, Knoxville Raceway, Ashway Speedway, Appalachian Speedway and Newport Speedway.
