Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series Set to Get Fast at Tazewell Speedway April 8 for the 3rd Annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial $21,000 to win
SOMERSET, KENTUCKY (April 2, 2023)- The Valvoline Iron-Man Racing Southern Series will officially kick off their 2023 regular season points chase on Saturday April 8 at Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN for the 3rd Annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial, paying $21,000-to-win and $1,000 to start the 75-lap main event. This event will be co-sanctioned with the Spring Nationals Series.
The 3rd Annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial goes at Tazewell Speedway on Saturday April 8 and will feature the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series co-sanctioned with the Spring Nationals Series in a full program of Denby’s J&J Construction Hot Laps, E-Z-GO Time Trials, Sunoco Race Fuels Heats, Impact Race Gear B-Mains, and the 75-lap, $21,000 to win/$1,000 to start Lil’ Bill Corum main event. Other divisions in competition at the 3rd Annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial event on Saturday April 8 at Tazewell Speedway will be the track’s Sportsman ($1,000-to-win) and Classic Car ($600-to-win) divisions. The track has posted the $2,100 Toyota Knoxville fast time award for the overall top qualifier for the Super Late Model portion provided the driver has pre-entered for the event, which had to be in or postmarked by March 29.
Activities at Tazewell Speedway on Saturday April 8 for the 3rd Annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial will see the pit area open at 2:00 p.m., with the general admission area opening at 5:00 p.m. The driver’s meeting will be at 6:00 p.m., with practice laps set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Ticket prices for the 3rd Annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial at Tazewell Speedway on Saturday April 8 in the general admission area will be $30 for adults, while a pit pass will be $45 for adults.
There will be limited camping available on a first come, first serve basis in the main parking lot area and the charge is $20 nightly and campers will pay this fee at the main gate to get camper credentials. There will no personal vehicles or side-by-sides allowed inside, however, there is limited handicap parking spots for spectators in the upper pit area on a first come, first serve basis. Minor release forms are required in the pit area for children under the age of 18, with both parents and the minor required to sign the form at either gate they enter the pit area. Any driver that has a vendor trailer must have a $1,000,000 liability insurance policy on hand.
The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series will co-sanction the event with the Spring Nationals Series and the tire rule will be as follows: Left Front: Open; Right Front: Hoosier 1350 and 1600, American Racer 48 and 56; Left Rear and Right Rear: Hoosier Spec 1350 and Spec 1600, LM40, CRUSA21, and CRUSA 55; American Racer 48 and 55/56, Pro 3 (NO Hoosier Ribs on Rear). There is no limit on the number of tires that can be used (NO 29.0 size tires on the left rear; the droop rule will be in effect, along with the new standardized body rules). The entry fee will be $150 and transponders for timing/scoring will be available for rent at the track. Any driver not making the 22-car starting field will receive $75 tow money.
Lil’ Bill Corum was the winner of more than 300 races and is a Hall of Fame Member at three different tracks. His career spanned from 1959 through 1989 throughout East-Tennessee and North Georgia while winning the first event at Knoxville Raceway, a two-time winner of the Tennessee Dirt Track Championship, and captured the NDRA’s Stroh’s 100 at Atomic Motor Speedway in 1981. Corum also competed in the only ARCA race that was held at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, TN, finishing third in 1973. Corum collected track championships at 411 Motor Speedway, Atomic Motor Speedway, Tazewell Speedway, Knoxville Raceway, Ashway Speedway, Appalachian Speedway and Newport Speedway.
