Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series Goes to Talladega Short Track for 6th Annual Governor’s Cup Saturday August 12

SOMERSET, KENTUCKY (August 5, 2023) – The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series will return to Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL on Saturday August 12 for the track’s 6th Annual Governor’s Cup event paying $10,000 to win and $500 to start the fifty-lap event at the track better known as “The Hornet’s Nest”.

The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series will be at Talladega Short Track on Saturday August 12 and will be featured in a full program of Practice, E-Z-GO Time Trials, Heat Races, Impact Race Gear B-Mains, and the 50 lap, $10,000 to win/$500 to 5th Annual Governor’s Cup Valvoline A-Main event. Other divisions in competition with the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series at Talladega Short Track for the 6th Annual Governor’s Cup on Saturday August 12 will be the track’s CRUSA Dirt Late Models, CRUSA 602 Late Model Sportsman, Talladega Sportsman, CRUSA Open Wheel Modifieds, Factory Stocks, and Hot Shots.

During last year’s visit to Talladega, Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga. took home the $10,000 payday over Sam Seawright, Austin Horton, Jason Hiett and Todd Morrow.

Activities at Talladega Short Track on Saturday August 12 will see the pit area and general admission area open at 3:00 p.m. The Chattanooga Valley Auto Parts drivers meeting will be at 6:30 p.m., with practice laps and time trials beginning at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices at Talladega Short Track for the Governor’s Cup event on Saturday August 12 in the general admission area will be $25 for adults (children ages 9 and under free), while a pit pass will be $40 for adults ($20 for ages 6-12, with children ages 5 and under free). All times listed are Central Daylight Time.

The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series will sanction the Super Late Model portion of the event and the tire rule will be as follows: Left Front/Right Front: Hoosier NLMT 2 or NLMT 3; Left Rear: Hoosier NLMT 2 or NLMT 3; Right Rear: Hoosier NLMT 3 or NLMT 4 (there is no limit on the number of tires used; the droop rule will be in effect, along with the standardized body rules of WoO/Lucas). The entry fee will be $100 and transponders for timing/scoring will be available for rent at the track. Any driver not making the 22-car starting field will receive $75 tow money.
