WAUSEON, OHIO (May 25, 2024)– The Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP Racing Fuels would sanction the 35th Annual Barney Oldfield Race at Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, OH on Saturday evening and Rusty Schlenk would make a turn four, last lap pass of Casey Noonan and score his sixth career win in the Barney Oldfield Race at Oakshade Raceway and claim a $5,000 payday.
The win by Schlenk would be his second series win of the season and would be his 35th career series victory, placing him second on the all-time win list. Schlenk’s win came aboard the Tyler Borck owned Domination Race Car powered by a Mullins Race Engine with sponsorship from Terry Hendrick Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/RAM, Tom Finch Automotive, Tri-State Pole Barns, Buckeye Concrete Coatings, Landrum Performance Springs, Integra Shocks, Domination Race Cars, Dominator Race Products, VP Lubricants, VP Racing Fuels, Willy’s Carb and Dyno Shop, Wilwood, Velocita USA, Be Cool, All Star Performance, ZAMP Racing, KBC Graphix, Vahlco Racing Wheels, XS Power Batteries, MAGA Lifts, Race-Fan.com, C-N-T Services, and Chris Mapes.
Casey Noonan would grab the lead at the start of the 35th Annual Barney Oldfield Race Valvoline A-Main, with Rod Conley, Rusty Schlenk, Ryan Missler, and Billy Green in pursuit. Noonan would quickly build a comfortable lead and would catch slower traffic at the rear of the field by lap eight. Noonan would encounter heavy traffic by lap ten, but would work traffic to perfection and maintain a comfortable lead. Meanwhile, Rod Conley would start get pressure from Schlenk for the runner-up spot, but Conley would keep Schlenk at bay while Noonan continued to drive away out front. The lone caution of the event appeared on lap twenty-four when Carter Schlenk would roll to a stop in turn two. The restart would see Noonan maintain the lead, while Conley and Schlenk resumed their battle for second, with Missler and Green still fourth and fifth. Schlenk would finally work by Conley on lap twenty-nine and would begin to set his sights on race leader Noonan. Noonan would catch the rear of the field again on lap thirty-three and by lap thirty-six would be in heavy traffic. Schlenk would close right up on the Noonan. The white flag would wave and Schlenk would make his move in turn two and the duo would race side-by-side down the backstretch and into to turn three. Schlenk would work under Noonan exiting turn four and beat Noonan to the checkered flag by 0.149 seconds. Green would work his way to third in final few laps, while Rod Conley and Devin Shiels would complete the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Ryan Missler, R.J. Conley, Dusty Moore, Colin Shipley, and Terry Rushlow.
