Iron-Man Late Model Series

Unstable Weather Forecast Forces Withdraw of American Late Model Iron-Man Series at Merritt Speedway July 3-4

SOMERSET, KENTUCKY (July 1, 2024)- Officials with the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP and officials with Merritt Speedway in Lake City, Mich. have agreed to cancel the series portion of the events scheduled at the track for Wednesday July 3 and Thursday July 4. The events will be run under the track’s banner and more information will be released by the racetrack in coming hours.

With teams having to leave as early as Tuesday evening to be at Merritt Speedway in Northern Michigan for the scheduled start time Wednesday, series officials felt it best to remove the sanction of the events for Wednesday and Thursday. The track, however, will still host $2,500-to-win (Lane Automotive Allstar Performance Challenge Series) events with their own purse and we wish them the best of luck.

“We have to be smart with travel decisions, more this season than in season’s past because we have twelve teams who have been to every series event coming from different areas, with half of our teams having to make a seven-hour one-way trek to Merritt for the two nights. We were truly looking forward to this trip because they have such a nice facility and a great race track. I’m hopeful we can reschedule for 2025,” stated Series Promoter Chris Tilley.

The Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP Racing Fuels next events will be at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, Ind. on Saturday July 6 for the 10th Annual Born Free 40 paying $5,000 to win/$500 to start and at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind. on Sunday July 7 in an event that will be co-sanctioned with the DIRTcar Summer Nationals that will also pay $5,000 to win/$500 to start.
